Progress Over Perfection
“A little progress each day adds up to big results.”
“If you don’t start you can never get anywhere.”
We have heard this words and yet we do not heed them.
Three years ago I made a choice to change my life.
I was at least 70 pounds overweight, uncomfortable in my own skin and mind. I ask myself – “what are the next 10 months or 10 years of your life going to look like?”
Where to start? What to do? How to do it?
I felt overwhelmed, depressed, and lacked energy. I felt like I was stuck in quicksand.
I could not stand it any longer so I committed to small action steps – literally.
I bought a fitness tracker – an Apple Watch – okay, don’t judge me but I am an Apple geek. I committed to doing some activity everyday. A walk, hike, treadmill, elliptical, or some steps around the house – something everyday.
In the past if I did not have time to do a full workout I figured that I may as well not do anything – all or nothing! That was not cutting it because the nothing was winning.
We often overwhelm ourselves with thinking we have to do it all or do it perfect. So too often we do nothing. Perfection can be debilitating.
Accountability is key – even if its just to me and my Apple Watch.
I set a reachable daily move goal.
I told myself that I did not have to do a huge workout everyday – just something.
As the days completing my move goal increased so did my commitment. I did not want to break my streak. Habits create our results. Little steps add up to big accomplishments. Slow and steady wins the race.
I started feeling better – the increased energy lifted the depression and effected my business drive as well.
Your mindset is the ruler of all – and my mind was charged up and ready to go.
I lost 70 pounds. I have met my move goal everyday for over three years.
I would still be where I was three years ago if I waited for perfection instead of choosing progress.
Embrace the small changes. Think in terms of simple adjustments and changes that you can make to move forward with your health, your happiness, your business, your life.
Progress over perfection.
